A Tribute by His Friend, Artist Adrian Anderson

Vernon, with a twinkle in his eye and a shy smile, could always be found working hard behind the scenes making sure everything was going smoothly, from exhibits to house parties to performances to installations, as well as the daily creative endeavors of Ken.

Ken always called me his “invisible” friend, probably because I too could be found behind the scenes being Vernon’s assistant.

Vernon and I had a very special friendship for over 50 years.

When we were sure Ken’s latest project was running smoothly, we would find a quiet observation point and share our admiration for Ken and his work.

We also enjoyed regularly eating lunch together when we both worked at UNT, a tradition we continued over the years.

Since 1993, Vernon kept and preserved the vast collection of Ken Havis’ work.

We all owe Vernon a huge debt of gratitude.

We have dedicated this website to Vernon to honor him and the important part he played in Ken’s life and work.

We miss you, Vernon.
