Most of the objects fashioned by Havis … are small, fetishistic pieces which combine a variety of “non-art” materials such as skin, fur, feathers, beads, buttons, ribbon and tactile fabrics. The stuff is abstract in nature, suggestive of body parts or states of mind. The ingredients come from indigenous area sources — Goodwill stores, trades-day fairs and the estate sales of longtime Texas residents.
